Walden Mutual: A Good Bank for Your Ethical Banking Needs
Walden Mutual is a mutually owned bank and is responsible to its stakeholders, including depositors. It invests heavily in the local New Hampshire agro-economy and does not fund fossil fuels.
Walden Mutual is the USA's newest mutual bank and is FDIC insured. It has excellent promise and does not fund fossil fuels.
We unfortunately weren't able to find some of the information that might have improved its rating to "great." Particularly, we'd like to know about its scope 3 CO2 emissions from lending, see it become PCAF aligned, and see it set short and long term emissions reductions targets.
It would also be helpful if it were to offer green lending products like environmental mortgages. If Walden Mutual were to fill out a CDP climate questionnaire, it might go a long way to scoring the highest possible rating.
We can’t say it better than environmentalist Bill McKibben: “Money is the oxygen on which the fire of global warming burns.” But don’t wait for the fire department to turn up – join us!
